SUMMARY:Care and Discipleship Course | Fundamentals Training
DESCRIPTION:Everyone shares advice\, but is your advice Biblical?\nThe question is not\, “do you counsel?” but rather “how biblical is your counsel?” In everyday life\, we counsel\nand advise one another. Sometimes people need counsel when they’re in crisis; at other times\, we simply work\ntogether to grow in Christian maturity. How can you learn to be more biblical when it’s your turn to counsel? \nA Training Course in the Fundamentals of Biblical Counseling\nWhat is it? The first half of the course is an introduction to biblical counseling designed to acquaint people\nwith an understanding of how the sufficiency of Scripture impacts the way we view our struggles. It also deals\nwith the general principles involved in biblical counseling and how one would apply Scripture to situations\ninvolving anger\, conflict\, depression\, fear\, temptation\, and dealing with trials. The second half of the course\nfocuses specifically on biblical views of marriage and parenting and how to deal with common problems in\nthese areas. \nWho should attend?\nAnyone interested in learning to: \n\nApply the Scriptures to your life.\nDisciple others.\nBetter advise and counsel others.\nBecome a certified Biblical Counselor.\n\n  \nWhen is it?\n\nConducted over three weekends\, Friday from 6:00pm to 9:00pm and Saturday from 8:30am to 5:30pm.\nJanuary 16 & 17\, February 6 & 7\, March 6 & 17\, 2026.\n\n  \nWhere Will it Be Held?\nFirst Baptist Church Slidell | 4141 Pontchartrain Drive\, Slidell\, LA \n  \nHow much does it cost?\n\n$75 which includes workbooks\, a copy of Instruments in the Redeemer’s Hands\, and lunch on\nSaturdays.\nCheck or cash; mail in to the address shown above or pay at the door.\n\n  \nHow Do I Register?\n\nCall the church office at FBC Slidell: (985) 643-3456; or email: don.roy@ibcd.org.\nRegister by January 5\, 2026 to ensure that you’ll have a workbook.\n\n  \nAdditional information:\n\nInstructor is Dr. Don Roy\, an ACBC Fellow\, IBCD Training Center Director\, and missionary with\nBiblical Counseling Ministries Worldwide\, www.bcmworldwide.org.\nMaterial is the Care and Discipleship Course developed by the Institute for Biblical Counseling and\nDiscipleship www.ibcd.org.\nThe course fulfills the academic requirement towards certification with the Association of Certified\nBiblical Counselors www.biblicalcounseling.com

SUMMARY:2025 Summer Institute
DESCRIPTION:Main Conference:\nDavid Powlison once called biblical counseling\, “Wise love in action.” But how can we tell if our care is as wise and loving as Christ intends it to be? When we minister the Word of God without the loving wisdom of God guiding our steps\, the counsel we offer can be trite\, wooden\, and disconnected from the person’s lived experience. However\, when godly wisdom informs our approach to compassionate care\, people feel seen\, heard\, and loved in Christlike ways. \nJoin us as we learn what it looks like to have our counsel shaped by God’s wisdom and how this impacts our approach to ministry priorities in Gospel care. \n\nPre-Conference:\nIn times of loss and sorrow\, finding a path to healing can feel overwhelming. Our Pre-Conference is designed to offer solace and strength through the comforting promises of the Gospel. Join us for a day of compassionate teaching\, heartfelt worship\, and meaningful fellowship as we explore the profound ways in which faith can withstand even the deepest sorrows. \nWhether you are personally grieving\, supporting a loved one\, or involved in pastoral care\, this conference will equip you with the knowledge and encouragement to embrace healing and find hope in the midst of hurt. Together\, let’s journey towards a deeper understanding of God’s love and the promise of eternal comfort. \n

SUMMARY:Southeast Regional Biblical Counseling Conference (SERBCC)
DESCRIPTION:Expanding on our first Southeast Regional Biblical Counseling Conference\, the 2025 conference will dive even deeper into the sufficiency of God’s Word for counseling.\nWe will seek to answer the question: Is it wise to rely solely upon Scripture when dealing with a “mental health crisis?”\n“Mental Health Crisis” has a dual meaning here. The first describes a person who is significantly distressed and unable to function in day-to-day life. They may be dealing with a traumatic circumstance\, or having trouble maintaining a grip on reality.\nBut our culture is also facing a “mental health crisis.” At a time when more mental healthcare services are available than ever before and trigger warnings are everywhere\, our nation’s self-reported mental health is declining. Also\, our suicide and overdose rates are higher than ever before. How should we as believers respond to THIS crisis?

SUMMARY:Main Conference: Friendship
DESCRIPTION:Are you interested in the Pre-Conference?\nYou can subscribe to Feelings & Faith Pre-Conference \nView event \n\nWhy the topic of friendship?\nThis year’s theme is\, “Friendship: A Lost Theology for One-Another Care.” \nIBCD originally planned to launch this conference in the summer of 2020; however\, due to COVID\, we opted to delay. In the Lord’s providence\, He has provided us with the ability to host this year in a time when–perhaps more than ever–churches need guidance in their theology of relationships. \nFriendships can become some of the closest and most important relationships we develop in our lives. Throughout the Scriptures we see friends who “love at all times” (Prov. 17:9) and recognize the help of “a friend who sticks closer than a brother” (Prov. 18:24). Old Testament narratives feature key friendships\, good and bad\, from powerful stories of trust to agonizing betrayal. “Jesus wept” over the death of Lazarus\, His friend (Jn. 11:11\, 35) and movingly describes His disciples as friends (John 15:15). Particularly in the transition to the new covenant\, the Bible places an incredibly high emphasis and primacy of one’s spiritual family above the biological family.  \nChurches looking to better foster a culture of one-another care must cherish and invest in their church families. These relationships are critical for the kind of long-term counseling that everyone should be engaged in as part of the Body (Prov. 27:6-10\, Eph. 5:19-21\, Col. 3:16). Friendship is also one of the most important images of the Gospel\, where Jesus is scandalously “a friend of tax collectors and sinners” (Lk. 7:34) and we see how “Greater love has no one than this\, that someone lay down his life for his friends” (Jn. 15:12-15). \nThe IBCD Summer Institute is a premier conference for strengthening churches in one-another care.\nWe believe it is the Church who is commanded to stand on biblical truth.\nWe believe it is the Church who is responsible for the care of souls.\nAnd we therefore believe it is the Church who must strive to foster this culture of one-another care\, so that the people of God may be better equipped to serve and love Him (Prov. 27:6-10).  \nWith these goals in mind\, will you join us in recovering a theology of friendship so that the Church can be all the more effective for the Kingdom?  \n2022-Conference-Schedule-1

SUMMARY:Pre-Conference Essentials
DESCRIPTION:Everyone counsels. In daily life\, people engage with one another regarding all types of circumstances. The question is\, how do we communicate the word of God into these situations? \nThis year’s pre-conference will focus on what is essential for personal ministry by looking at God’s call of every Christian to love one another in the mess of life. We will explore the practical ways God equips every one of us to minister the gospel powerfully to one another\, whatever the pain or struggle. \nIt will be recorded and introduced as IBCD entry-level curriculum for one another care\, designed as a new resource that can be used by churches across the world. \nSpeaking with us will be Scott Mehl\, who pastors Cornerstone Church of West LA\, a multi-ethnic\, multi-lingual\, multi-generational church where he was a church-planter (2005) and then a church merger (2011). His ministry focuses include preaching\, teaching\, counseling\, and leadership facilitation and development. Scott’s wife (Lara) and their four kids find it a joy to call West LA their earthly home\, and have a deep love for the diverse people of the city. \nScott has a D.Min. In biblical counseling from Southern Seminary\, is an adjunct faculty member at Eternity Bible College\, a member of the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors\, and has served on the Board of Directors for Claris Health. Scott speaks regularly on topics related to biblical counseling and discipleship.
