Military and law enforcement service often places people in situations where lethal force is authorized and sometimes used. When people take life in these situations, it will have an effect on their souls. However, the state of their soul in the midst of taking life plays a significant role in determining the kind of effect that will take place. 1 Samuel 25 shows how the motivation for killing—whether legal, authorized, or justifiable—will greatly influence its impact on the life-taker’s soul.
