Life delivers complexity. Growing older together leaves many situations open-ended. People sin against us and we sin against each other. Things don’t resolve. We crave closure, sometimes to point of distraction—even idolatry. Healthy marriages understand that closure, at least in this life, is overrated. We gain the kind of closure that transforms by looking not to the present, but to the beauty of the past (at the cross) and to the hope of the future (the new heavens and new earth).
